- Responsible and Effective Use of Generative AI
Feb 25, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM
(Europe/Berlin / UTC100)
Location: Virtual training course
Speaker: Stefano Rapisarda, Utrecht University
Research fields: Specialists of all scientific fields, and on all career stages are welcome
Target audience: All career stage scientists and professionals, students and PhD candidates.
We are happy to announce our fifth online workshop on ‘Make Your Data FAIR - Responsible and Effective Use of Generative AI’ presented by Stefano Rapisarda from the Utrecht University Library. This one and a half hour virtual training course will take place on Tuesday, 2025 Febuary 25, from 10:00 to 11:30 Central European Time (CET). Designed for scientists and professionals at all career stages, including students and PhD candidates, this interactive workshop will focus on software packaging, publication, visibility, and sitation.
Generative AI has become an integral part of modern research and academic work, with tools like ChatGPT experiencing exponential growth in user adoption. Understanding how to use these tools effectively while adhering to FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) is crucial for ensuring transparency and reproducibility in AI-assisted research. This workshop addresses the fundamental aspects of generative AI, from its technical foundations to practical applications in research, emphasizing how AI outputs can be documented and shared in alignment with FAIR data practices.
The responsible use of generative AI requires a thorough understanding of its capabilities, limitations, and ethical implications. This knowledge enables researchers to make informed decisions about when and how to incorporate AI tools into their work while maintaining academic standards and research integrity. Topics like bias recognition, prompt engineering, and adherence to institutional policies play key roles in ensuring the appropriate use of these powerful tools.
In this workshop series, you will explore the core concepts of generative AI and develop skills for its responsible implementation in research. In particular, you will learn:
- To understand how generative AI works, including the basics of deep learning and neural networks without requiring programming experience;
- To recognize and evaluate the potential limitations and biases of generative AI tools in research contexts;
- To implement effective prompting techniques for better results while maintaining critical evaluation of AI outputs;
- To navigate ethical considerations and comply with institutional policies regarding AI use in academic work.
Join us for this hands-on workshop series on understanding and implementing generative AI tools in research through responsible practices. These sessions will provide you with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively integrate AI tools into your research while maintaining academic integrity. We look forward to your participation.
