Join us for the natESM Community Workshop 2025

We are excited to welcome you back to Berlin for the natESM Community Workshop, where our community will gather to share the latest updates, discuss technical achievements from recent sprints, and reflect on the near-completion of the first phase of the natESM project.

This event offers a unique opportunity to exchange ideas, celebrate our progress, and look ahead to the future of natESM. We hope you will be part of these important discussions!

Please note: Due to the interactive and collaborative nature of the workshop, we will not offer streaming or online participation. Thank you for your understanding.

Agenda

Agenda.

It’s important to emphasize that the BOG are designed to be interactive and flexible. Participants will have the opportunity to actively shape the discussions and bring in new inputs and ideas. The goal is to facilitate a collaborative exchange and providing an opportunity to establish new working groups.

More details from the organizers of the BOG Land:

The session will begin with a brief presentation on the current status of ICON-Land, followed by two to three short "pep talks" introducing specific topics for discussion.

Further topics:

  • Upscaling of plant physiological and biogeochemical processes.
  • Disturbance modeling (e.g., fires and other disturbances).
  • Large-scale hydro(geo)logic modeling at kilometer-scale resolution: determining the appropriate level of detail for feedback simulations.
  • Data sets and tools: What’s currently available, what’s missing, and how can gaps be addressed?
  • Community engagement: Strategies to broaden outreach and effectively solicit contributions from the community.
  • Impact and feedback simulations: Where do feedback simulations end, and impact simulations begin (and vice versa)? This topic will be discussed in more detail during our “One hour to shape tomorrow” session on the second day.
